RHAC General Notes
•Spanish trip….
We are still asking for volunteers to host young visitors from Spain (early August). If you can help, contact Steve Gaines.

•Next Runners’ Social
Is there a desire to hold another runners’ social before the end of summer, or is waiting for example to autumn preferable? And if there is to be one, would it be like the last or some variation? Talk among yourselves, as the saying goes, and let me know

•SY Road League:
Our friend and often race adjudicator Keith Binney (SY Road League man) was telling me he intends to start up the Road League again next year ie spring 2020. I promised to raise the issue with our committee and did so last week. RH Exec Committee did not rule out an involvement (to arrange/assist a fixture) but expressed concern that finding an acceptable venue might not be as easy as it appears. No verdict as of now, but if we did it would have to be a Tuesday or Thursday.. I thought Thurcroft might suit, others were not convinced.

Track and Field
Members cannot have missed reports of a lot of positive performances this year from our young athletes, despite which team results have not gone the right way. I invited Steve Gaines to give us a summary:

“..Given that both the LAG & the UAG teams gained promotion last year, it has become apparent that we simply do not have the number of athletes to cover all the events and be competitive against the stronger city teams, such as Gateshead, Leeds & Middlesbrough.
Our team managers have proved they can select teams capable of covering events, and our athletes have shown they can match and better the best performances of athletes from those clubs, however we do not have enough athletes to compete effectively in the more "technical" events.
The UAG* team have been relegated along with Doncaster, and the LAG team are involved with 6 other clubs to determine which 4 clubs will remain in the two top Northern divisions (East 1 & West 1) and which 3 clubs will be demoted. This promotion match will be held on the 20th July.

This shortage of athletes can be attributed to a lack of dedicated club coaches for events like Pole Vault, Hurdles, Triple & Long Jump. We have therefore decided to try and recruit some coaches to either cover these events, or to enable some of our existing coaches to be trained and accredited to coach those technical events.
Anyone interested in becoming a coach for the club should contact me or Kevin. The club will support any coaches financially and with any necessary resources.”

Shelter….
“Let me be your shelter, Let me be your light….. “
Now, where have I heard that?*

Slaving away in the breaks from awful June weather, Steve and Kevin caught at a critical stage on the Herringthorpe Stadium construction site. Calm, orderly work- especially so as the bits were reluctant to fit together as intended.
Great work though boys. Would you believe it’s taken almost two years to get permissions etc etc?
Let’s remind ourselves, the various impressive RHAC club achievements come off the back of next to no official support or development.

SY Relays Damflask
A dreadful day weather-wise for the annual road relays but a reliable performance from our representatives with full teams male and female.
Silver in both lists for RHAC, behind Hallamshire. I have no report yet but results, which were not available on the night, are now online

Ulley Res Whiston 19/6/19

The Ulley Res race on 19th June was one of the best we have ever delivered. A lot of contributors helped to make it a memorable evening and despite the large number of officials and marshals from RH, we topped the list of club entries on the night.

Members provided a top-class buffet; don't forget you can claim your expenses from me or kiosk. The event was again generously sponsored in general and in placement awards by Mark Ruddleston, the event being in memory of his father and former member Peter.

Abbey Dash 3/7/19
RHAC had a great night at Maltby on the occasion of the Abbey Dash. In fact everybody had a great night, good race, decent weather, a fine social and spread afterwards. We took the top awards with Ben Hague back in town and showing the way home with a vengeance to win by over two minutes from a batch of Clowne and Killamarsh runners. Not to be outdone, Cathy Eddison performed the same feat in the ladies’ race, placing well up in the open list. Steve Marshall ran fifth, thereby taking the vet-40 award (award groups in 10-year sections for this one by the way) but that was it for RH, other categories going to Kimberworth, Maltby, or a variety of visiting clubs.

Lack of further awards was hardly an issue though, as we put 31 runners into the field, far outnumbering the rest. Worksop were next with 23. And we were fairly evenly spread through the list. Well done to all concerned.

I have been checking on inter-club performance (see chart) and can only say how impressed I am at the club support of my colleagues
