Newsletter Aims
This Newsmail is light on reports and results and aimed at event-planning. It is sent routinely to adult members and to bona fide applicants who are in the 4-week trial period. Also sent as a courtesy to selected ex- and non-members.
Increasingly, parents of young athletes are taking up the sport themselves, but I don't automatically send them mail so please encourage such parents if you know any to opt in to subscription (newsmail@rotherhamharriers.org) if you know or suspect they would enjoy joining in our activities.
We do not send newsmail directly to registered contact email addresses of young athletes as such.

Rotherham 10k
No report or analysis at this juncture, but a ‘well-done’ to all who participated in a very well-organised and well-marshalled race and event

Fifth Annual RHAC Relays in Clifton Park

MIXED BALANCED TEAMS
ALL AGES
ALL ABILITIES OF RUNNERS INVITED

Relays: Tuesday 11th June, event off at 6.30 pm.
This is a 4 x one mile relay on the paths in the park- the same as is used by Park Run.
The changeover is at the Garden House (where the Rotherham 10k start/finish was). (Photo: the very first relay start in 2015)
I think these will be the fifth year of relays, we hold them because they are good fun, you get to know more of your club colleagues, anyone can be a winner, and they are a great introduction to team racing.
Road relays are the primary measure of a club’s strength in road running.

How they work: you enter the event in advance, I give you an estimated time, my computer program makes the teams of four (broadly speaking, fastest runner, slowest runner, and two nearest middle makes a team, then keep doing that).

You need a quotable time: possibilities are one or more times from *KMR race(s), *Xmas Day race, *park run, *Rotherham 10k, *other recent open race such as 5 mile, 10k, or even half-marathon. Young athletes will be taking part: coaches will give me their training times for measured distance.

All entrants are mixed in the same pool, young/old, male/female.

All entries on or before 10th June.
NO ENTRIES ON THE NIGHT.
You can get your numbers and arrange your leg order from 6pm at the Garden House (or maybe a bit earlier).
Reminder: entry generally restricted to club members or bona fide applicants; we invite a number of former members and friends.

RH in South Yorkshire: Damflask

September and October see the second lot of big relays: the North of England then national 6-stage relays (men) and 4-stage (women), the 12 /6 stage being ‘Easter’ time.

The county relays used to be back end of summer but now they get in the way in the spring. So the big events for us are the SOUTH Yorkshire relays held annually at Bradfield, running alongside Damflask. We always have teams there, maybe more teams this year.

From Steve Marshall- DAM FLASK RELAYS
The date is set for the 2019 Dam Flask Relays:
· Tuesday 25th June
· Start time 7:00pm (men) 7:05pm (women)
This is a terrific club night set in the picturesque village of Low Bradfield , Sheffield.

The event incorporates the South Yorkshire Road Relay Championships so the opportunity to reinforce the clubs standing within the region.
Last year over 700 runners took part with Rotherham Harriers 1st & 3rd overall in the Ladies category. 3rd & V40 winners in the Mens category.

[PH: You need an EA race licence to take part- if you haven’t got one, you should get one:- let us know on a club night. Black vests at this event. Be early if you can, parking is always an issue.]

· MEN: SM, M40, M50 – 4 legs of 3.507 miles*
· WOMEN: SW, F35, F45, F55, M60 – 3 legs of 3.507 miles*

KMR Report and Plans

KMR report
on #1 (Scholes Coppice), #2 (memorial Race)
Top class RH turn out at both events, good results and category results, big RH numbers in the field abnd a lot of awards. And a great night out. Well done.

KMR#3 Kimmy Kanter:
Tuesday 4th June
at Millmoor Junior Ground, Droppingwell. Start 7pm. Enter on the night £5
After at (probably) Green Dragon.

The race is 2 laps in woods, fields and tracks of Grange area by the golf course. Track undulates (strongly in places).

The website map above is indicative, it may be varied after recent reopening of the nearby quarry. About 5 miles (shorter?). Start: red dot, finish on the slope outside the footy field. Not unlike Santa Special but not the same.
There may be a Steel City Striders contingent at this one.

KMR#4 Ulley Res
on Weds 19th June: RHAC’s next organised race

Now 14 years of history with hardly a change (damaged dam aside). Whiston Parish Church Cricket Club for a 7.15pm start, 5 miles by out-an-back lanes with a small loop round part of the dam itself. Nice countryside in the valley bottom.

Marshals Needed: unlike Scholes Coppice, the Ulley race is rather heavy on marshals. A road crossing at Upper Whiston is mainly responsible for that- quite safe for runners but needs coverage.

We provide our own refreshments for this one- can you make a contribution please? (providers can claim back their expenses). Sandwiches or similar are good, I usually provide sausage rolls, porkpies and pickle.

Elmton Chase Anyone?

Never done it myself but those that have say it’s a fine short race in the countryside: Elmton is just south of Clowne, perhaps best approached via the M1 to Barlborough (junction 30).
The race is organised by Clowne RR, who have been prominent in KMR races over recent years- a good few at 2019#2 Maltby and probably at Ulley Res (#4) next month.
Clowne have generously avoided clashing with our Ulley date and it would be good to says thanks by turning out in theirs.

Cost £5, enter on the night, 7.30pm start. Wednesday June 26th.
