At Leigh Sports Village- an excellent turn out and performance across the full age group range! Thanks to all the athletes, team managers, parents and helpers for another strong club showing.

Pride of place goes to the Senior Womens squad; with A team 1st, B team 6th (1st B team) and C team 37th (1st C team), but there were many other great results for the club.

The senior mens team again qualified for the National Championships, finishing 25th, and a partial B team (4 runners) where Nicholas Myers ran a creditable time of A team calibre .

The U15 boys team (Devon Stead, Kane Smith & Ryan Beale) narrowly missed out on medals finishing 4th. The U17 mens team (Aaron Thorpe,Connor Ryan & Luke Cotter) were 8th.

The U17 womens A team were 11th (Emma Dutton, Bonnie Smith & Jess Mangham), and the B team ( Jess Freeman, Emily Hutchinson & Mary Jenkinson)were 16th and 2nd B team.

There were some really good performances from the U13 teams - all of whom were performing at this level for the first time - resulting in good team positions. The boys team (James Johnson, Declan Walker Smith and Alex Kitson) were 14th, and the girls team (Mya Taylor, Annabel Johnson & Elle Carr) were also 14th.

Special mention needs to made of Maisie Elliott, who ran the 1st leg for the U15 girls team, but had no team mates to complete the team.

The domination of the senior women's teams, is in stark contrast to that experienced only some 4 or 5 years ago, when Jenny Blizard was the only club athlete to run.

The credit for this turn around can be attributed to the tremendous job done by team manager Nigel Brookes, who has got the whole squad motivated and producing great performances.

2012 is not just a great year for Olympic athletics - it is also proving an exceptional year for club athletics with 2 area wins for the women's relay teams - all local and home grown!
