Pride of place this week goes without question to the 24-Hour Relay, an outstanding success from various angles and a proud achievement for the organising and participating group
The photo of many of the RHAC attendees at the 2019 Memorial Race in Maltby is particularly appropriate: the 24 Hour group chose it as the background picture for their Just Giving page, the race features as a KMR virtual running promotion and the relay connection is relevant. All in this issue.
With an aim of raising £500 for NHS and other needy charities, the runners are thrilled to note that as of this morning at 9.30 the take amounted to £2427.
Wednesday 6th May is the date of KMR#2 2020. Some people love it, some almost fear it. What's not to love about a 1.6k uphill?
Well, the fact that you've run a reasonably level half of the 6 mile race when you come to it. You need your act together on this one, or you perish. My favourite. Click for larger map
This year running the real race is unlikely to be possible for you (unless you live nearby) but we challenge you to run the course as a virtual course Its number one of the KMR Series Virtual Challenge: see below
Fit people need to stay fit, unfit people need to get fit. It's no surprise that runners have found ways to make their runs more like the real thing and 'virtual' events have taken off. eg London "2.6" rather than cancelled marathon, eg our 24-Hour Relay and WhatsApp group setting weekly challenges.
This very morning Steve Gaines has alerted me that main Running Result publishers are now routinely accepting virtual events
The challenge is that on (near) each race date you get details of the route etc and dream up for yourself a route as similar as you can

Again no substantial change in the information coming to us ....running restrictions possibly relaxed...yes ??
...... racing restrictions more relaxed..... well, no.
Still, we can live in hope. One thing does seem apparent to me: during this week, a lot of people have appeared in public in numbers, on the streets and on the roads.
Illegally? I'm not saying that but people will arrange their own versions of exit from lockdown unless some sort of viable common sense scheme is brought into play.
Current government advice and requirements are here
In the club's April Exec Committee meeting, very efficiently held with Zoom App, two clear wishes at least were expressed: we needed to get newsletters out asap, and we needed to date and organise our in-club relays in Clifton Park.
Regrettably, the latter has again proved elusive, and we can claim that this time it's not our fault after two (or is it three?) years failing to fit the event into the club and race calendar. But we do regard them as important- they bring club members together, they are supportive of improvement and development, they prepare runners for inter-club competition where relays are the primary means of judging club status on road.
So again I can say: we aim to hold the event as soon as we can. Whimsically, however, there is this proviso: the best venue for us is Clifton Park....
A major concern therefore is whether we can get a booking (whenever the time comes round) or will we get upstaged yet again? After lockdown there is concern there will be a big call on the facilities for christening parties.....

from Lindsay Whitaker: some great running in the 24 Hour Relay, and it looks like some deserved relaxation subsequently
